“Rob has the integrity to be Assemblyman”

OAKLAND – California Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson has endorsed Rob Bonta for Assembly in District 18, the Bonta campaign announced today.

“Rob possesses a deep commitment to public school children, parents, teachers and school employees,” Superintendent Torlakson said. “He has the integrity to be an Assemblyman and the skills to help improve our state’s educational system.”

Torlakson, a former classroom teacher, city councilman, supervisor, Assemblyman and Senator, is the first current statewide elected official to endorse a candidate in the race for Assembly in District 18.

“I am honored that Superintendent Torlakson believes I am the best candidate to fight for better schools in Oakland, Alameda and San Leandro,” Bonta said.

“I share his commitment to fighting for the over $117 Billion our state will need over the next decade to ensure all our schools have the modern infrastructure necessary to allow public school students to compete in a global economy.”

Throughout his career in public service, Vice Mayor Bonta has distinguished himself as a strong advocate for Alameda’s and California’s public schools. He has fought to prevent layoffs of firefighters and police officers, foster economic development, exercise fiscal responsibility, and improve recreation opportunities for families.
