OAKLAND – The California Nurses Association today announced its endorsement of Alameda Vice Mayor Rob Bonta for the 18th Assembly District.

“Rob Bonta is a lifelong progressive public servant,” said Malinda Markowitz, RN, President of the California Nurses Association. “He shares our commitment to public education, healthcare and livable wages for all. We are proud to endorse him for Assembly.”

“As a strong supporter of universal healthcare, I am grateful to have the support of the men and women who serve on the front lines of healthcare in California,” said Vice Mayor Bonta.

CNA represents more than 86,000 nurses at over 200 facilities across the nation, including Kaiser Oakland Medical Center, Kaiser Alameda Medical Offices, Alta Bates Summit Medical Center, Eden Medical Center & San Leandro Hospital, and Alameda Hospital.

Rob Bonta is the California Democratic Party’s endorsed candidate in the 18th Assembly District, which includes all or portions of the cities of Oakland, Alameda, and San Leandro. The district is currently represented by Assemblymember Sandré Swanson, who was first elected in 2006 and is currently serving his final term.

Throughout his career in public service, Vice Mayor Bonta has distinguished himself as a strong advocate for Alameda’s and California’s public schools. He has fought to prevent layoffs of firefighters and police officers, foster economic development, exercise fiscal responsibility, and improve recreation opportunities for families.
