Vice Mayor Rob Bonta recently received a big boast to his state assembly campaign.

In a six-week period that started in July, Bonta raised $40,000 for his campaign on the website Act Blue. com. Act Blue is a website where average everyday citizens can donate to Democratic campaigns across the United States. Bonta told the Sun of his accomplishment: “ActBlue is just one source of fundraising I am using. I’m gratified to have reached my $40,000 goal on ActBlue in just under six weeks and am setting some new goals before the end of the year. All of the contribution amounts and contributor information (regarding those who contributed the $40,000) will be available after the next reporting period ends on Dec. 31.”

Bonta, a first-term city councilman, is looking to replace Assemblyman Sandre Swanson when Swanson retires from the assembly at the end of 2012.
