What is Jessica Sanchez to singing could be Rob Bonta to politics.

While Bonta may not fly high as a kite as Sanchez in the consciousness of the star-struck Filipinos, he is the rock star of those in America who want recognition beyond sports and entertainment so they won’t be called stupid by sultry Sharon Stone and accused as fake by bosomy (“they’re real, and they’re spectacular!”) Teri Hatcher.

Sanchez came short to win this year’s “American Idol” but Bonta’s convincing lead over his closest rival for the 18th District of the California State Assembly during the June 5 primary elections could make him the first Philippine-born representative in Sacramento. The 18th District covers Alameda, Oakland and San Leandro.

The 21,934 votes tabulated for Bonta were 4,512 more than those of the second placer. In an electoral process that is handicapped by truant voters, overcoming Bonta’s eight percent lead is insurmountable.
